Self-Parking Cars An Unparalleled Option
The most experienced urban driver of all can even have difficulty in parallel parking. It can take a lot of careful maneuvering for parking a car in a squeezing way into a tiny space while the traffic is tied-up.
It is not unfortunate that a self-parking option is perfect way for becoming standard equipment in luxury automobiles. High prized options are offered by all luxury cars like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Porsche.
There are some self-parking cars available that are not entirely autonomous. In fact it is much easier for them to slide into an available space. The car's speed must be regulated with the use of the brake pedal.
Luckily, the idle speed of the car is sufficient for completing the maneuver. The input is reduced to a great extent once the on-board computer takes over.
How it works:
The process starts when the car pulls forward to a position which is directly parallel to the front car. A signal will let one know when the time has come to stop and one can shift into reverse while releasing the brake slightly. The car will be guided backwards by the computer.
The power-steering system will help the computer to turn the wheel and perfectly maneuver into the desired parking space.
Another signal will help in letting one know to stop and shift into drive when the car is at a reasonable distance away into the parking space.
Eventually, another signal will let one know about the completion of the parking process.
Various methods
Different methods are available in different self-parking options for sensing their relation to objects around the car.
The rear and front bumpers have some sensors. They act as both receivers and transmitter. Small signals are sent out of the sensors that bounce off objects near the car and giving back the reading back to the sensor. The location of these objects are calculated by the on-board computer calculates after examining the amount of time taken for the signals to bounce back.
Radar or cameras are used by other systems that are mounted on the car's bumper for detecting any objects.
A top-of-the line version was recently created by BMW that allows the driver for operating the system from outside the car. This could particularly be of an advantage if one has to frequently squeeze into narrow spaces in parking garages.
You might also want to know how to parallel park and how to park on a hill. It will help you avoid any mishap.
