What Is The Right Food For Lent Time?
Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal or human for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role.
But the in the time of lent, we only need to serve a food that is particular on that occasion.The time of Lent is a forty day period where a lot of spiritual people get to take a look at themselves and examine their lives. It is also the time of repentance, a way to cleanse one's self in time for the Easter holidays. The number forty is also there in recognition of other events in the Bible, like the forty days Moses spent on Mount Sinai, the forty days Jesus resisted temptation in the desert, and the forty hours in the tomb.
Food during Lent is considered simple and light. As meats were not allowed for people who were fasting, fish and vegetables are the most common of ingredients for the foods served during the Lenten season. Fish is probably the most common of all foods prepared during Lent. This is especially true for people who live far away from the ocean. Other cultures also have staple food for the Lenten season. There is also the staples for the Lenten season such as the simple bread that is baked with only flour, salt and water, called pretzel.
Vegetables are especially good during the Lenten season, as it keeps people who are fasting complete with vitamins and other nutrients that can still provide them with energy. Vegetables during Lent are usually prepared in a simple manner, usually steamed or grilled with little or no seasonings.
