What is Winter Lights?
Winter Lights is a 3.5-mile holiday lights drive at Seneca Creek State Park.
How does it work?
Attendees purchase a ticket in advance, selecting a night to attend. Attendees may arrive at any time between opening & closing on the date of their ticket. Must remain in their vehicle the entire time. (Please note: The driver is required to wear a mask at the admission booth.)
Stopping and/or parking along the way is not permitted, except in an emergency or at the porta john locations. Pro Tip: Many attendees bring hot chocolate. Their favorite holiday playlist to maximize the experience. Attendees can also tune into 97.1 WASH FM on the radio for holiday music.
How long does it take to drive through the show?
With light traffic, it takes approximately 25 - 30 minutes. On busier nights, it can take as long as 1.5 - 2 hours.
When is the best time to attend if I want to avoid the crowds?
We recommend purchasing a ticket for any Monday - Thursday. Weekends & the weekdays right before Christmas are busiest. Plan to arrive as close to 5:30 p.m. as possible.
Can I walk or ride my bike through the lights?
No, for safety reasons attendees may not walk or ride a bike through the light show once it opens to vehicles. There are two Walk Under the Lights events scheduled for the weekend before opening.
Can I bring a bus, van, or limousine? Yes. Limos are considered “carsâ€. Can purchase a standard ticket for a particular night. Limos are considered “carsâ€. Can purchase a standard ticket for a particular night. 15+ passenger vehicles can purchase a ticket for $30 and attend any Monday through Thursday of the season.
Can I get out to take pictures?
No. Attendees must remain in their vehicles throughout the drive. You may, however, snap as many pics as you like as you move through the show.
Are there bathrooms I can use?
Yes. There are porta johns in two locations; near the entrance/exit, and just beyond the admission booth.
Is there holiday music during the show?
You can load a personalized playlist beforehand, or tune into 97.1 WASH FM for Christmas music.
What COVID-19 safety precautions are you taking?
Winter Lights & the City of Gaithersburg follow the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) & Montgomery County Health Department guidelines. Purchases will be made online only, creating a touchless experience for attendees. Masks will be worn by check-in staff, and are required for attendees at check-in.
