You Don't Need to be a Detective to Work Out Why The Chinese Are Immigrating to Canada
The booming economy of Canada coupled with the fact a friendly government, is attracting the youth of China in droves.
It is not that the economy of China is not booming. A check at most supermarkets and malls around the world will testify to the fact that the majority of goods available in them are of Chinese origin. In fact the prices of these goods never cease to amaze purchasers. They wonder how it is possible for the Chinese to produce all sorts of goods at such low prices.
The answer to this question lies in the fact that the pay scale of workers in China is extremely low. In fact the Chinese workers are the lowest paid in the entire world. Add to this the fact that almost all property in that country is owned by the government and is leased out to its citizens emphasizes the poor condition of its citizens.
Little wonder that they are no longer interested to stay back in their country of birth and immigrate to Canada. If one studies the history of Chinese immigrants to Canada, they will find that the first group of such immigrants dated way back to the 19th century when their labor was used by the Canadian government to develop the infrastructure of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
But, as soon as the project was complete, the government of Canada issued an act. According to this act, a tax of $50 was to be levied on each and every Chinese immigrant to Canada. Observing that this tax hardly deterred the inflow of Chinese citizens, the amount of the tax was increased to $100 and later on it was hiked to a massive $500... a huge amount when one considers the purchasing power of the dollar during those days. A long time has passed since then and the act has been repealed long back.
The Chinese are nowadays most welcome to immigrate to Canada because of their inherent skills in carpentry and cooking. The sad part is that most of the blue collar jobs are still not available to the Chinese immigrants to Canada. However, they do not mind the same as long as they are able to stay in a country that provides them with far better amenities than what is provided to them by their fatherland. If one checks out the number of immigrants coming over to Canada, they will observe that the largest of them are the Chinese.
Most of them undertake jobs that the local citizens are not interested in pursuing. This is why one finds that most laundries in Canada are owned by the Chinese. It goes without stating that Chinese cuisine is the preferred choice of many all over the world, and the situation is no different as far as Canada is concerned.
