What Is The Difference Between A Ride On Mower And A Lawn Tractor?
If the thought of using a walk behind lawnmower on your expansive property makes you feel a little sick, you are definitely in need of a machine that is much bigger and much more powerful. Two machines that you could choose for this job include a ride on mower and a lawn tractor. Whilst both these machines have their similarities, they do have a number of differences that set them apart. So, what are these differences, and do they make one type of mower more preferable to the other?
Towing capacity
Lawn tractors are known for their ability to tow small, specially made trailers, which makes transporting other goods around your property much easier. Whilst trailers are available for mowers, they are fairly new to the market and are few and far between.
Snow blowing
Some lawn tractors can double as snow blowers during the winter months, which increases the amount of time that they can be used in the area considerably. Whilst this functionality is only useful in areas that see snowfall, there are a number of these locations in Australia. Ride on's do not come with this ability at all.
Cost
A ride on mower is considerably less expensive than a lawn tractor, mostly due to the lesser functionality that it provides. This makes it a great choice for owners of large properties that only require a machine to cut grass, as they will stand to save a bit of money that can be put to better uses.
Deck adjustability
One of the main benefits of the ride on is that most models allow you to adjust the cutting deck to a height that suits your grass and the type of terrain that you will be mowing on. Lawn tractors take this ability one step further, however, by being suited to cutting on all terrain types without the need to adjust.
Really, the similarities and differences between ride on mowers and lawn tractors make them very difficult to compare sufficiently. Whilst the tractor could be a highly useful machine, it will set you back a pretty penny without even taking into account the expensive accessories that are available. On the other hand, the mower is distinctly cheaper and easy to use, but doesn't offer anywhere near the same functionality. If you are trying to choose between a tractor and a mower, make the choice based on what you would prefer to use.
