There is always a wish to become better player of any musical instrument. If you are learning the piano, no matter which level you are in- basic or advanced, you would always strive to get better at it. There is a certain ambition in all of us to try and become better players than we already are. However, there is a lot of disappointment that comes in the way if the following aspects are not taken care of:
1. Regular practice
As your piano teacher would tell you, you need to practice at least for one hour everyday. Piano lessons need a lot of practice and cannot be learnt if one is not practicing everyday, maintaining a proper routine.
2. Extra Practice
You might be busy on week days and not find enough time to practice. Make sure on weekends and holidays you have extra time dedicated for your piano lessons. To be able to make a better piano player out of yourself, you need to dedicate extra hours whenever you find the time to.
3. Listen to the piece you would play
If you have been given a new piano lesson, try searching the piece on the internet or in the music stores. Listening to the music you are about to play, gives a better ear for the music and your piano teacher would be happy with your performance on the piece.
4. Don't go about maintaining the dynamics of the piece while practicing
There might be some notes which are mentioned to be played in high-note, or some notes which need to be very emphatic. For learning the piano lessons you don't need to emphasize on these aspects initially. You can take care of the dynamics of playing when you are playing it properly before an audience.
5. Sight reading practice without worrying of making mistakes
You are given a notation sheet of the piece you are about to play. Try reading it like a paragraph as it helps to understand what the paragraph is trying to convey. This would help you play it more like a story and stop you from making mistakes, as you would automatically know which notes to follow.
6. Keep a note of your mistakes and pay attention to them
Do not consider your mistakes as a burden. Play the instrument by trying to avoid making the same mistake over again. Keep playing the portion until you have corrected the mistake.
7. Count the notes during playing according to time signature
If, for instance, you have a time signature of 4/4, then you need to count the notes in each bar and maintain a rhythm in playing the piano lessons. You need to judge how much slow or fast you would need to play the notes in order to maintain the time rhythm.
8. Come out of stage fright
In order to come out of stage fright, you need to play in front of your family and friends. Many people have stage fright or public fright and cannot play in front of an audience.
9. Ask your piano teacher to play
The piece you are going to play, ask your piano teacher or someone senior to play it for you. Listening to how a senior plays the notes can give you a better idea to play the piece smoother and better.
10. Concentrate playing properly
Most people feel they play excellent piece when they are playing it alone. However, they muddle up when they are playing it in front of others. You need to make sure you are maintaining the tempo and are not playing it too slow or fast.
