Blisters are usually caused by friction and motion that causes the skin to rub against something such as a sock or shoe. The heat generated from the constant rubbing will cause a build up of fluid that starts underneath the skin. As the rubbing continues, the fluid sac will become larger and will burst.
In most cases, blister problems result from improperly fitted shoes. Shoes that are too loose may cause the heel to slip up and down as we walk which creates a rubbing of the back of the heel against the shoe. Another example would be where the toe box area of a shoe is too tight. With no room the toe area will rub against the shoe with the added pressure of the shoe being pressed against the foot. Both of these situations will result in the forming of a blister.
Stretching the shoe to make it larger or wearing thick socks in the case where the shoes are too loose, may resolve the issue. But, in most cases, it may be best to get a new pair of shoes that are properly fitted for your foot. It is also important to wear good quality socks that can protect the foot.
Podiatrists and other foot care specialists recommend that the patient leave the blister alone, cover it with a band-aide or other bandage. They suggest to not pop the blister to drain it as opening the wound subjects the area to contamination and possible infection.
If the blister is very bad, it is suggested to immediately see a foot care specialist who may drain the blister or otherwise treat it to prevent worsening or infection.
Good quality Orthotic Arch Support Insoles, such as the Superfeet Premium Insoles, can help people who suffer with recurring foot blister problems by stabilizing the foot to reduce unnecessary motion and friction.
Superfeet Premium Insoles are manufactured with a friction resistant woven fabric top cloth. The result is not only a reduction of heat building friction but also a reduction of blistering. The Superfeet Orthotics will also stabilize, balance and properly align the foot to insure proper foot arch motion.
