A heating element works on the principal of conversion of one form of energy into other. It converts electrical energy into heat energy and works on the principal of Joule heating effect. These elements are typically found in hot water tanks. Electric current passing through the element is made to encounter resistance which leads to heating of elements. Ni-chrome 80/20 (alloy of 80% nickel in 20% chromium) is used in most of the electrical heating elements because of its high resistance.
Materials commonly used in making of a heating element are-
Resistance wires-These are used in some items of common usage such as toasters, hair dryers furnaces for industries, floor heating, path heating, dryers etc. Kanthal wires, Ni-chrome 80/20 wire and strip and Cupronickel alloys are most common resistance wires.
Molybdenum Disilicide (MoSi2) - This compound is a refractory ceramic with primary use in heating elements. This element is electrically conductive and has moderate density. It is used in glass industry, ceramic sintering, and semiconductor diffusion furnace.
Molybdenum Di-silicate doped with Al or Mo-It is a refractory ceramic with primary use in heating elements. The application area of this metal includes glass industries, ceramic sintering, heat treatment furnace.
Screen printed metal-ceramic tracks-These elements are used in kettles and other household appliances since mid 1990s.
Etched oil-These elements find their application in precision heating elements that include medical diagnostic, aerospace and many more.
Tubular - Tubular is a thin coil of Ni-chrome wire in a ceramic industry binder, which is sealed inside a tube made of either stainless steel or brass. They find their application in toasters, ovens, stoves and coffee makers.
Heat lamp-This is a high-powered incandescent lamp that is usually run at less than maximum power to radiate infra-red rays instead of visible light. They are found in radiant space heaters and food warmers.
Electric stoves- Surface burners, bake elements and broil elements are the 3 types of electric stoves.
Commercial heaters- are those that provide endless heating facility to those areas that are hard to heat. These are Eco-friendly equipments and are economically affordable. They are also very safe as they come with automatic shut-off button. Types of commercial heaters include Bed bug treatment heaters, Container heaters, down flow heater accessories and Down flow unit heaters.
Why do people buy electric heaters?
Working in a temperature controlled workplace is both healthy and comfortable, thus most of the office spaces are using electric heaters. Since, this is an onetime investment the purchase would be done with good thought and research. Adhering to the weather conditions, these heaters follow the systematic cooling and heating in the zone to moderate the temperature of water, internal spaces, swimming pools and beneath the floor. These heaters have become an essential inclusion in industries like IT, hospitality, agriculture, aquaculture and many more.
