The very first computers that were invented, were simply huge, taking up entire rooms, with basic input output capabilities. Over the years, the computer has developed into a powerful data processing and multimedia device, while at the same time decreasing in size. The tablet PC is the latest development in computing. This very useful device has all of the power and functionalities of a laptop or desktop computer, with the weight and size of a magazine.
With mobile internet speeds increasing each year, comes a desire for people to want to have a computer that they can bring around with them. While the introduction of the netbooks was able to fill this role very nicely, there were other people out there that wanted something even smaller, and easier for them to use. That was how the tablet computer came to be. Through the use of a touchscreen display, the need for a mouse or keyboard is void. The 3G wireless connectivity is able to connect to any network allowing users to browse the internet no matter where they are. By removing all of the unnecessary components, developers were able to produce something that was lightweight, flat and capable of meeting the needs of the majority of computer users.
The big names were very fast in pushing their new systems into the marketplace. Today you can find a number of tablet PCs made by companies such as Samsung, Apple, Motorola, RIM, Toshiba and ASUS, all with similar features and characteristics. While the specifications of each tablet may vary somewhat between the different models, the display screen of the tablets range from 7 to 10 inches, with a resolution as high as 1280x800 pixels. Most of the top cameras that you'll find in the marketplace today range from 3 to 8 megapixels and are well capable of recording full high definition video at over 20fps; when it comes to storing movies, apps, personal data and music, the storage capacities for these devices range from 16GB to 64GB, with the higher storage capacities costing slightly more than its lesser counterpart.
The attribute that people tend to look at the most, and is the biggest deciding factor when it comes time to buy is the operating system. If you have a Smartphone, then you already know how this works. Currently, the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab are run on the Android, with the Apple iPads on iOS. The interfaces for these operating systems are all very similar. Ultimately, if you're looking for a device that features email, word processing, web browsing, light gaming and multimedia viewing, then it would be hard to go wrong with any one of these.
