A lot of people are clueless when it comes to starting a business. There are a lot of reasons why people wish to start their own business. They usually aspire to have their own business and retire comfortably in the near future. It may be due to their childhood dreams or something they wanted to build while they are still young. Whatever the reason is, it is important to know the foundation of how to start a business.
Before starting, there are 3 questions you need to ask yourself.
First, ask yourself what is the reason that you want to go to business. Surely, you have heard the gospel of doing what you love philosophy in starting a business, but is it really as simple as that? The daily brunt of the operation might leave you to exhaustion that you soon find out that it is fast becoming a bore. Or, you might be hell bent on being rich to prove to your parents that they shouldn't have poke fun of your ideas, but you soon find that once you have reached that pinnacle, there is something amiss.
While these might just be some of the reason that you need to have in hindsight, it is important not to lose focus on these as it will be the core of your business, and something that you fall back when everything seems spiraling out of control.
The next question revolves around how to jumpstart your business. Where can you have that extra push to make you finally do it? What is your motivation that drives you?
What would be a good answer to the simple fact that you will be cutting your free time, taking on debt, or have added responsibility? Now, this is the most important of the questions that you shouldn't skip. Answering this question will prepare you for any problems that might arise in handling the business.
The third and most overlooked of the questions is the culmination. Ask yourself this, where is the business going? Sometimes, you need to read and be update with the things happening around you, and while you might have sound answers for the first 2 questions, it might not be future-proof. A good example is the newspaper industry. While you have both the passion and vision, the problem is, newspapers are now on the down path with all the electronic book readers coming in. A look at the viability of the business might not be as good as when 30 years ago, when print is at the top of the game. Now, there is an increase awareness as well as environmentalists getting concerned about the thinning forest, the trees that are being cut down to supply the paper to be printed on. The newspaper era is now slowly becoming a relic of the past.
