So soon the holidays are over and it is it time to prepare the children to get them back to school. A new term means new items of uniform and more often than not new shoes.
Children's shoes are a much more serious purchase that you may originally think. With numerous technologies being applied to shoes it is much like buying a new car. Not really surprising when we consider the length of time children spend in their shoes and the activities they encounter, particularly during their school days.
With children's feet not being fully formed until way into their teens it is important that they wear well fitted shoes. Foot health should be monitored through the different growth stages, paying particular attention to any complaints the child may have. Promoting good posture from the correct shoes early on can prevent foot, knee and even lower back problems in later life.
When buying new shoes there are a number of design aspects, which are worth your investment to protect the development of your child's feet.
1. It is important to use a shoe brand that can professionally fit and regularly monitor the growth of your child's feet.
2. The perfect shoes for your child's feet should include:
- Sturdy, durable materials that live up to varied play
- Uppers made from breathable material
- Fully adjustable fastenings for comfort
- Permeable linings to draw moisture away from the skin
- Shaped and sturdy support around the heels for a good fit
- Flexibility at the front of the shoe to aid movement
3. Having your child's feet measured regularly is essential to ensure there is always growing room. Pinched, squeezed feet can be the cause of minor ailments or the beginnings of more serious growth and posture problems.
If you child's shoes are relatively new and the fitting still allows growing room, yet you have heard complaints of aches and pains it could be that their shoes could benefit from updating rather than replacing.
The following signs could indicate that your child could benefit from specialised childrens shoe insoles:
- Fatigue in the legs prior to peers when running could be an indication of flat feet.
- Heel pain can be caused by repetitive stress from sports, causing inflammation to this weak area. It is also know as Severs Disease.
- Repeated clumsiness may be a sign of balance problems or neuromuscular conditions.
Specialised childrens shoe insoles, also known as orthotics, can be used to correct or control any abnormalities with the feet. These insoles can be bought "ready to wear" and to fit any type of shoe, new or existing.
As I said in my opening, it seems that making sure you children have the right shoes for them to be both comfortable, healthy and protected for the future takes almost as much investigation and consideration as the purchase of a new car. Invest a little time now to protect your child's future!
