All About Disc Golf!
What is Disc Golf?
You've heard of golf. And you probably know Tiger Woods. But, do you know Ed Headrick? Well, you should. "Steady Ed", as he was known, invented Disc Golf, which is a disc sport modelled after the concepts of golf. But, in this case, the golf ball is a smaller, heavier "disc", and the hole is a "Disc Pole Hole" with a chain basket. Like golf, you tee off from a designated area and attempt to get your disc in the basket in the fewest number of throws. A standard golf course is 9 or 18 holes. If you finish the course with the fewest throws, you win!
Why play Disc Golf?
Affordability. This is way cheaper than regular golf (and you don't have to wear knickers). In fact, most courses are free to play.
Health and Relaxation. Most courses feature undulating terrain that should keep your pulse up. Your heart (and your Fitbit) will thank you.
Socialize and make friends! Disc Golf is one of the fastest growing sports. There are a lot of new players. So, get out there, make an introduction, and enjoy a little friendly competition. Don't worry introverts, you can always play alone too.
Take the game home with you. Like our pioneer Steady Ed, he started with throwing into trash cans. Pure innovation, right? Well, the game has modernized a bit. Pick up a portable disc golf basket and practice at home!
Disc Golf sounds fun, right? Well, it is! Anyone can play. But, you'll have an advantage if you play with the right equipment. Head to discgolfbaskets.com to find the perfect disc golf baskets for you. See you out there!
Types of Disc Golf Discs
This game modelled after the concepts of golf, is ever increasing in popularity. The crude origins of the game involved people throwing a Frisbee into a trash can. Innovative, right? Luckily for you, the game has modernized a bit. Today, players use four different types of weighted disc golf. Each one has a specific use, for example:
Distance Driver: Designed for maximum range with moderate accuracy, this disc has a sharp bevelled edge that allows it to cut through the air at a high rate of speed. Attack the course with this beast.
Fairway Driver: Designed for range and accuracy, this disc is easier to throw and control compared to a Distance Driver. If you're a beginner, consider a Fairway Driver over a Distance Driver.
Mid-Range: This disc is used to get you as close as possible to the Discs Pole Hole after your drive. It has a soft bevelled edge which, when thrown hard, provides an accurate, consistent flight with a soft, straight finish. Hunt the chain basket with this disc.
Putter: Meant for short approach shots to the Disc Pole Hole. These flies slow and straight with maximum accuracy and will help you make critical shots to stay in the lead.
