Affiliate marketing is simply signing up with a company (a vendor) with a product to sell and helping this company by selling for them for a commission. The product could be a physical product or digital (downloadable). For physical products the best known vendor out there is Amazon.com, followed by eBay, Commission Junction to name just a few. When it comes to digital products, the number one company is Clickbank.com with over ten thousand products in its database.
It does not take much to start selling as an affiliate marketer. All you need is a desire to succeed, a computer with an internet connection and some spare time. You then need to determine what interests you and find a product in this area to sell. Make sure to check a company out before you decide to sell for them as there are many horror stories as you might expect.
1. Find a legitimate company
In addition to the above stated companies, you can do a search in Google for other companies. Just type in a hobby or area of interest followed by affiliate programs. There would be lots to choose from
2. Get an Affiliate Link Once you decide which affiliate marketing program to join, visit their website to apply to become an affiliate. It only requires your name, address to send your checks and other pertinent information.
3. Get Domain and Hosting
You will then need to buy a domain name and sign up for hosting. A domain name is simply the name of your website and hosting is the address where your domain resides. The two together would cost you about $20 at the most.

Now before you jump in and spend your money on things you may not need, get some help, mentoring. You need a plan of action, and realistic goals. There are some affiliate networks which offer free video training and seminars. These training videos and seminars are very useful for learning the basic and advance skills in affiliate marketing.
