This morning I woke up early to book my tickets for the match between Yankees and Orioles. Not to know who will be the winning pitcher or the losing pitcher but just to catch the action that will unfold on the pitch. I could barely hold my excitement and wished if I could accelerate the pace of ticking moments. I firmly believe most of the Americans feel the same way because I have never come across any American who does not know about this spectacular game, afterall; it is America's pastime. It is not only about the bat, gloves, the baseball and the 9 players on either side who strive to score higher runs.
It is way beyond this, it is more about coming together as members of family and watch the sporting spectacle unfold in its complete glory right before your eyes. Where passions run high and so do the spirits of cheering fans. It is a gathering of multitude that is motivated by one purpose, the purpose to watch the game of highest action like a young but yet a sane enthusiast who strives only for joy. Today was my day to experience this joy after a long working month wherein I was only able to keep track of the performance status of my favorite team through internet during the day and that too in the stealth mode, away from the ever scrutinizing eyes of my boss at office. Well, the month of hard work has passed by but without the live action of baseball it can never be called a fulfilling month. So here I am after the long wait watching the match between Yankees and Orioles. What a delight, I cannot explain it in words, the rush of adrenalin and my favorite MLB logo coffee mug in the firm grip of my hand. I love my MLB mug more than any other MLB promotional item because it is sleek and I got it custom made with the logo of my favorite team inset on the base of my picture. It looks awesome!
Finally it was time and I reached the stadium to catch up with the action. It was an amazing match and I was completely engrossed in the action on the field. While I was completely under the spell of baseball fever I happened to spill some beverage on the young lady sitting next to me. For a moment the rush of baseball appeared to have ceased, as she stared at me in anger and I returned her gaze with a regretful look and involuntarily I grabbed my MLB sipper and poured some cold water on her hands to clean them off the beverage. For a moment I thought what shall I do next? While I was contemplating my next move to appease her she returned my gesture with a smile and said, "may I sip some coffee from your MLB logo coffee mug?" I readily handed over the mug to her and we both rejoined the action that was taking place on the field. It was a great game with a great balance between the best ball and the best strike! There were several occasions when the players from the defensive team leapt into the air like panthers to catch the ball and threw it back to the base like lightening. But the runners also ran like athletes with the grit of seasoned sportsmen.
I would say it was a clash of equals and towards the end I was the winner because I enjoyed the match thoroughly and I made a friend as well. We both talked about baseball and I took her to the shop from where you can buy the MLB promotional item and I bought her aMLB logo coffee mugwith the picture of her favorite player beside the picture of her 9 year old daughter who loves this game equally. She liked this token of our very unusual rendezvous and as I said good bye to her I retired towards my home with sweet memories of the baseball match and a rejuvenated self, well prepared to face yet another week of a busy schedule at office. Baseball forms the base, pun intended, of all my passions and I am passionate about the game like any other American!
