How to Prevent Your Dog from Escaping?
Dog's can get very excited especially when they're in a new neighborhood you just moved in. Anything that moves that catches their attention will immediately make them excited to go out, or sometimes they just want to go out, because they hear noises outside and want to discover and explore the source.
This can become a problem especially since we initially get dogs as protection. Now who's gonna protect us when our guard dog is out running around the residence with his tongue hanging out?
There are plenty of ways we can prevent them from doing so, obviously the first one is having a physical fence installed, if you are moving in a place make sure you check if the fences are high enough to prevent your dog from leaping out, or at least have a fence setup before hand. However there are some places that will not allow you to do so, this dilemma can be solved however by invisible fences.
Invisible fences can be easily installed and you do not have to spend more money on further maintenance costs as it does not require as much maintenance as physical fences. They do require you to have training with your dog and if you are a busy family, this situation will never work out for you. And though it might work to prevent your dog from going on a rampage around the neighborhood, it cannot prevent wild animals and strays from entering your area which might pose a risk for your family and your dog.
Your third option would be leashes and cages, they are usually not fancied by pet owner's all around because they can become stressful for dogs. Cages, for example, might be effective on preventing your dog from going out but it also limits the area in which he can move around, and we all know that dogs need at least 30 minutes of exercise everyday to be fit and prevent certain diseases. Leashes can also limit the freedom of your dog and poses a risk of your dog being strangled by the leash itself. So if you choose to get a cage or leash, make sure it is big enough for him and the leash is strong enough to prevent him from breaking it and loose enough so that his airway doesn't get blocked.
Finally it all boils down to training, having a well behaved dog is probably the most effective method of preventing them from running around, but it is also the most tedious as it requires patience on your side. You will also certainly enjoy the time you spend training your dog as it creates a bond between you and him, although if you don't have the time you can still hire a dog trainer to do it for you.
