What are most suitable engraving tools for wood?
Recently, 2 of our customers took a few orders of hard wood machining.
One detailed information is as below:
- Wood plank thickness: 25MM;
- Wood material quality: very hard plywood! Used for yacht;
- His CNC router specification:
- Working area: 1.3M * 2.5M;
- Spindle: imported from Switzerland.
And he uses normal cutting tools: Solid carbide cutter: Shank-6mm, Cutting Length-30MM;
But the result is not satisfied, tools are very easy to break. Later, he changed to cutting length-28MM, but soon the cutting tools become not sharp enough; what is more serious, it break the router collets too! He is worried, and really desire to know what tools are well applied in his woodworking project, or is there any good ways to solve?
So is there specialized engraving tools for wood working cnc router, especially to cut 25MM solid wood boards? Some of our customers have been in woodworking production for many years. Indeed, for such hard plywood, there may be some difficulties..
Basically, it is mainly up to 3 elements: wood CNC machinery, engraving tools for wood, and material quality.
1. First, to the wood materials:
- Generally, wood can be classified as 2 types: heavy-textures, and light-textures; that is, if the material quality is fine and smooth.
- If with fine texture, fast speed should be guaranteed; and similarly, otherwise slow speed.
2. Second, to the wood router bits:
ASTECH-Tools kindly suggest 4MM.
- Because to solid wood engraving, the most important is cutting chip removal. Compared to 6mm, 4mm is better and easier for chip removal. But, 4MM is easier to break compared to 6mm.
- It also depends on your actual situation. According to your own machine power & CNC tools quality, if 4mm could not get good performance, and harder engraving for wood, then you could only apply 6mm.
- Warm notice: just select cnc cutters of big chip removal abilities.
3. Another way is: Tool Path.
Engraving finishing separately in 2 times. To wood processing, if the carving tools are not with good quality, and cnc machinery don't have high-precision, then there will be a line after 2 times engraving.
To avoid this situation, you can do like this:
- The 1st time, set tool path: little shifting 0.5; then finish 2nd time machining.
- When engraving hard wood materials, basically, do not set too slow speed.
- For example, below 3M speed is not easy to tools broken, but consume tools fast; and engraving bits black easily. (to slow speed, tools are very easy to blacked).
- Besides, if you don't know very well about the operation skills, it break easily too.
4. Dear friends,
- you can find some engraving tools for wood with reasonable price, such as ASTECH carbide end mills & router bits, to test the good quality and excellent performance.
