Visit any vacation town or area and chances are, you will see a number of golf carts - and that's not counting the ones on the actual golf course! More and more, people are discovering the advantages of having a golf cart for traversing their property or in vacation areas where getting to the activities can be a bit of hike. In fact, golf carts are becoming quite commonplace.
So, if you have ever considered purchasing one for yourself, then you know that there are two types - battery powered and gas powered and each of the have a variety of pros and cons, with the constant being that they cost about the same - regardless of which model you select. The Pros and Cons of a Gas Golf Cart
As the name implies, the gas powered gasoline which means that when gas prices go up, so will cost of operation. A battery powered or electric cart will not be affected by the increase however, you will need to purchase a new battery from time to time and these can be pricey!. In addition, the gas operated cart will also need to have the oil changed and have tune ups performed, also adding to the overall cost.
If a gas operated cart needs to be refueled it is simply a matter of adding more gasoline at your nearest pump. Of course, a plus is that they get around 150 miles to the tank (Most have 6 gallon tanks). If your electric cart runs out of power, you are "stuck" until you can get somewhere to recharge it. Typically, a battery powered cart has a lifespan of approximately 2.5 hours of continuous use or as many as 5 hours of stop and go usage. So, if you are looking for distance the gas golf cart is the better choice.
In the instance of noise concerns, the gas powered one are louder, so if you live in a residential area where people might complain about the noise, then the electric cart might be a better solution.
While the electric cart might be more environmentally friendly, it should be noted that the gas operated cart has more horsepower (10-12 HP to the electric's 3-5 HP) and can even be used to pull along a small wagon or piece of equipment, making the perfect invest for a smaller farm or piece of property.
