When it comes to choosing a portable oven, the type you choose should suit its purpose and your lifestyle. Portable ovens usually come in three types: electric, wood fired and propane. Here are some of the pros and cons of using each.
Wood fire ovens are great for making pizza. When cooked on one these not only pizza but all foods taste fabulous because the wood imparts a smoky flavor into the food. Another advantage of using one is that it can give you the crispy crust you crave for your pizza pie. Many people shy away from buying this kind of oven thinking they are only large, bulky, and heavy. However, there are in fact many portable versions that are smaller in size and much lighter compared to the full sized ones. While they are a bit more expensive than gas ovens, they are very affordable and often highly portable.
Electric
Electric ovens come in all shapes and sizes. And of course that means smaller ones that can fit perfectly on most counter tops even if they have limited space. Portable pizza ovens for example, are perfect for petite homes. Despite being not as big most can accommodate a 12 inch homemade or frozen pizza easily. Since they use electricity they need to be plugged into an outlet but for those who have one outside they can be used outdoors as well. But of course don't forget to bring it inside when you're done using it.
While portable electric ovens look like toaster ovens and many are often mistaken for them, they actually use convection to heat food. This means cooking evenly and quickly making them a good choice for people who want food in hurry but not zapped in a microwave. That does not just apply to pizza, any food you can cook in a conventional oven like pasta, fish, chicken, meat and frozen dinner can be cooked in an electric unit too.
Gas
Portable gas ovens use propane for fuel. Like electric options, with these you can cook an enormous variety of foods. But, the difference is you can do so on the beach, at a mountain cabin, lakeside lodge, camping in the woods, or while tailgating. Many people use them when travelling in their RV's as well. Some consumers even use this type indoors. Gas ovens are very common and often cheaper than wood burning ones.
Solar
Harnessing the power of the sun, portable solar ovens can cook all the foods conventional units can simply by using conducting trays that absorb the sun's UV rays. They are not only useful outdoors but during emergency situations can literally save your life particularly when propane, wood or electricity is not available. The only downside to this type is that they can only be used during daylight hours.
Portable ovens are a versatile cooking tool no matter where they are used. From the woods to the kitchen there is a model and type for every need. But regardless of which one you ultimately choose they'll all help you enjoy the tasty foods you desire.
