If you have always associated Mahindra with utility vehicles, then it's time for you to change your perception! With the recent launch of Mahindra XUV500, the carmaker has simply revamped its image. This stylish crossover got unveiled on September 28th and since its launch it has created a buzz in the automobile industry in India. With the new SUV, Mahindra is surely expecting to boost its sales (already 6000 of booking within first two days of its launch!). Here's our expert review on what to expect from Mahindra's this "Wonder Car".
Mahindra XUV500 is backed by a mighty 2.2 liter mHawk diesel engine which delivers a power-packed 140bhp with 330Nm torque. This is the same engine that powers the Mahindra Scorpio. The 2.2 liter engine coupled with a 6-speed transmission and the 5th generation Variable Geometry Turbocharger enables the SUV to do a 0-60 in just 5.4 seconds. The powerful and the torquey engine has not been compromised with fuel economy and it shows. The beast of an SUV returns an impressive 15.1 Km per liter (ARAI-certified). Driving the new XUV500 is a pleasant experience for the driver as the Dual Mass Flywheel ensures rattle-free driving pleasure with high torque at low engine revs. The beast is also environment friendly as the advanced Micra Hybrid Technology helps conserve both fuel and nature.
Technology is present in abundance in the Mahindra XUV500 SUV. A 6-inch LCD touch screen on the dash coupled with highly sophisticated touch screen infotainment system with DVD player, CD/MP3, FM, Bluesense technology, full i-pod connectivity and 6 speakers. This might sound music to your ears as the speakers with built-in tweeters recreate the experience of an original studio recording for all audiophiles, so that you have a musical riding experience!
The XUV500 also features a fully loaded GPS navigation system, which covers over 1.5 million kilometres of road across 1200 cities with a turn-by-turn voice guidance system in not less than eight regional languages. The system also gives the driver access to over 5 million touch points of interest including restaurants, ATMs, fuel pumps and movie theatres. With XUV500 your driving is always safe and fun-filled.
Mahindra has been extremely careful in designing its safety features. The car includes ABS with EBD, electronic Stability Program with rollover mitigation, hill hold, descent control, 6 airbags (front, side and curtain), intelligent headlamps (turn on when dark is sensed), digital immobilizer, Tubeless tyres, and robust crumple zone so that you stay safe on roads.
Coming to the exterior, Mahindra engineers have worked hard on it. The XUV is Cheetah styled, the front portion of the crossover being alluring with honey comb grill spreading all over the fascia. The aggressive clear headlamps with parking LEDs, lower fog lamps and sporty roofline blending with hood bestow the vehicle with arresting looks. Apart from these, the exotic flare fenders, smartly designed door knobs, broad rear end and integrated side indicators on ORVMs all pile up to formulate a true crossover, Mahindra XUV 500.
