Make Money Online - Think You Know What You Need?
Websites and Advertising, Busted!
With sales topping twenty billion dollars back in 1999, the last decade has only served to reinforce that despite the global economic down-turn, online businesses are not only here to stay, but likely to increase as a preferred way of both buying and selling in the decade ahead. And in the case of the latter, that is hardly surprising.
Of course for many, the main lure of starting an online business is for the huge financial rewards that are potentially on offer. For most people working a 'nine to five' job however, it is perhaps of greater appeal that even average success can be enough to free them from the shackled confines of office life.
It is therefore equally unsurprising that there is a lot of 'how to make money online' information on the internet, but the trouble is that a good proportion of this information is conflicting.
To save you learning the hard way, you may therefore find it useful to be given the low-down on two major elements of the online industry, Websites and Advertising.
1. 'No Need for a Website'
Sooner or later as you immerse yourself into the world of Internet Marketing, you are going to see this statement, but is it true? Can you really 'make money online' without owning or controlling a website?
Well technically, yes, there are a few ways, one of which is to drive potential customers and visitors (known as 'traffic') to someone else's website, and then take a pre-agreed slice of the profits with the website owner on any sales your traffic generates. In doing so, you would be known as an 'affiliate', but whilst many make comfortable money online doing this, it limits the multitude of strategies that the internet offers to make money online. And additionally, even if you do not personally own or control it, there is still undeniably a website in the equation, so although you may not 'need a website', at minimum you do realistically need to tie your campaign to one in order to make money online.
But having a website is no longer solely in the preserve of large companies, in fact the chances are that even your local corner store or bar has one, and with good reason.
Having a website is an opportunity to promote your business and display your wares, be that products or services - think of it as your store window to visually attract the attention of passing traffic, and entice them to come on in and take a look around. And just like a store window, a website has only a few seconds to create that spark of interest that will make passing traffic stop and take a look, so it goes without saying that spending time on the presentation and content of your website is a must if you wish to develop your market, and increase your online business revenue.
That said, your website does not need to look spectacular and cost the earth to make money online, It is what you will offer and how it will differ from your competitors that matters the most, and if you hook up with the right expert and campaign, it is quite possible to have a ready built website provided for free as part of the deal.
2. 'You Need a Huge Advertising Budget'
Well you can certainly spend a huge amount on advertising if you are not careful or misguided, but again, with the right expert and mentor, you will soon learn that you can direct enough traffic to your website to make money online without spending a fortune.
The tricky bit is deciding which advertising strategy is best to drive traffic to your website and the particular offer you are making, because the methods you choose will invariably determine the size of budget you need to allocate.
The good news is that the internet offers a great deal of free advertising media, as well as a whole array of inexpensive alternative options. And that is not where it ends either, because having an online business does not mean you have to get your traffic using online advertising strategies - it may sound old-fashioned, but off-line traffic generation can still be a very cost effective advertising strategy today, there is a life beyond Google!
