Kodak Playsport HD Video Camera Review - Affordable Best High Definition Pocket Camcorder
The Kodak Playsport is an affordable and compact HD video camera which offers all the benefits you would expect of a quality lightweight high definition camcorder; meaning its easy to shoot, share and enjoy your video clips in 1080p full HD. The standout feature of this camera is allowing you to shoot just about anywhere you could think of, including depths of up to 10 feet underwater.
Leveraging on the successful and hugely popular Zi8, the Kodak Playsport takes all the original features and design it into a rugged, waterproof casing which is tough enough to accompany you wherever you want to go. The camcorder has lightly rubberized surface at the front and ridged edges at each side, giving you a good grip and ensuring it won't go flying through the air unintentionally should you want to take it on a black run, cycling or skateboarding.
The Kodak Playsport offers video recording up to a full high definition 1080p at a smooth 30 frames per second, in a one-touch operation by pressing a large button at the center of the directional control pad. While the video quality in1080p is good, there is also the option to step down to 720p at 60 frames per second. On the onset it may be of a lower resolution, it puts less of a strain on the len's resolving power and allowing you to capture moving shots better.
At a relatively inexpensive price point, a necessary HDMI cable comes generously bundled with the package, along with standard AV and USB leads. Coupled with the preloaded software in the Kodak Playsport, Kodak has made sharing your videos via social networking or email extremely easy and hassle free.
The Kodak Playsport has strike the right notes, but it faces strong competition from other pocket camcorders such as the Sanyo VPC CG20 and Flip UltraHD. But in our experience, using the Playsport feels better than both these competitors, and the availability of optional accessories, in the shape of handlebar and helmet mounts, brings it to the front of the pack. The Kodak Playsport has exceeded what we expect to find for its very fair price and you can catch it out in the rain too.
