Evolution of Security Cameras
The Purpose of Security Cameras
Closed-circuit television cameras or CCTV cameras are popular means of security in many business establishments as well as residential houses. The usage of such cameras dramatically reduced crime rates due to police being able to identify culprits using video footages that were recorded by the cameras.
Crime prevention is the primary purpose of CCTVs. Today, almost every corner of the street has a security camera that monitors every activity on the vicinity. The cameras are connected to computers which are then being watched over by the authorities. Other places that are prone to many forms of crime are car parks, estates and places where there are many people especially during rush hour. Security cameras keep watch for any irregular activity in the area.
CCTVs are also being now used by industrial companies for its processes that are too dangerous to be performed by humans. Chemical industries are now required to use cameras in places which are too life threatening for a man to enter. Such places include fuel tanks, reactors and the likes. Today, the use of surveilance for such purposes is already required by law.
For the authorities working for road safety and monitoring, such cameras play a vital role in having an overall view of all the main roads in town. With the cameras, authorities get to see where accidents occur and dispatch rescue teams in a quicker process. They are also able to see where the heavy build-up of traffic is and give advice to motorists on where to pass to reach their destination faster.
Cameras for Home Security
Although CCTVs are often associated with big business establishments, their uses in residential buildings are just as effective. The most common type is the wireless camera. Consumers use this type of security camera for home surveillance. Since they don't have cables and video or audio transmissions, installing them at home is more convenient. They are also less expensive than their "wired" counterparts. In the past, users of such cameras rely on analog technology because it is the only type available. With the advent of digital technology, users can rest assured of sharper videos with better sounds and a signal with less interference.
CCTV Vulnerability
Security cameras protect businesses or homes against many types of crimes. However, although they protect many people, many cameras are unprotected against people. Together with the evolution of security measures, criminals have also developed ways to prevent security cameras from catching them.
The latest models of security cameras come with self-security features. There are still, however, models that come unprotected against illegal tactics. The easiest way for criminals to avoid being caught by cameras is to destroy them. Some criminals will deliberately tear cameras apart. There are new models now with explosion and bullet-proof cases to prevent being destroyed by most firearms. Some people, though, don't have to destroy the device. They only spray colored paints on the lenses to make the images blurry. Some cameras are also unprotected against lasers, which criminals take advantage of.
