Most games sold include instructions on how to install the game, if you have a game and would like to know the correct measurements and how to install it - then this article is for you.
The hook should be mounted to a wall or post at about chest level of an average height person - or around 48 to 56 inches from the floor. When choosing a site for your game - you'll need to allow for people to stand up to 8 feet away from the hook - try not to position the hook in an area where it will interfere with the path of other people.
With the hook installed on the wall or beam or pole, you now need to measure 4 feet (48 inches) back from the wall on the ceiling and place a mark for the eye hook that you will attach the string to. It's important that the eye hook be placed directly behind the wall hook - if it's too far to the left or right of the hook it will make playing the game difficult.
After installing your eye hook in the ceiling you can attach one end of the string to it.
Next you will need to pre-fit your ring to the string by wrapping the string a few times around the ring - do not attach the ring to the string until you have properly adjusted the length of the string to the hook on the wall.
The ring is properly adjusted and ready to be tied with a knot when the hook is positioned in the middle of the ring when pulled taunt. If the hook is close to the back of the ring then the string is too long and will need to be shortened a little. If the hook is too close to the front of the ring, then the string is too short and will need to be lengthened a little. The hook should be in the middle of the ring when adjusted correctly. After tying your knot, re-check the length of the string and verify it did not slip.
Ready to play?
You'll have a lot of fun playing the game, one tip in learning how to get a ringer is to not throw the ring directly at the hook, instead swing it gently a little to the left or right of the hook and allow it to drop onto the hook as it swings over it.
