Cleaning Products Safe For Pets
We love our pets! Although, sometimes it's hard to keep our homes from smelling like them. There are hundreds of cleaning products available, the problem is that most of them are toxic, not only to humans but especially to our pets. The good news is that there are many pet safe cleaning products that will leave your home clean and smelling good without causing potential harm to your furry friends. While most of them can easily be made from items already available in your own pantry, there are also a few that you can buy that are safe for your beloved pet.
Distilled white vinegar is one of the best all-around, pet safe green cleaning products that you can use. It will cut grease and add shine to dull surfaces. Most importantly, it is perfectly safe to breathe and ingest. For a citrus smell, you can add a little lemon juice or peel that will also help to cut grease. Just mix it with equal parts water and start cleaning! It is great on most surfaces, especially glass. The combination of vinegar and liquid castille soap can also remove urine stains some pet owners are all too familiar with. All you have to do is to rinse the stain with water and apply the solution, then let it sit for about 30 minutes. Rinse the stain and blot with a dry cloth.
Baking soda is another inexpensive but highly effective cleaning product that's safe for human and pets. You can deodorize your carpets and pet bedding with baking soda by sprinkling a heavy layer, leave for a few minutes and vacuum. Put it on a sponge and use it on your bathroom surfaces to clean instead of harsh chemical cleaners that may lead to allergic reactions. You can also add it to the rinse cycle in your washing machine as a fabric softener and odor remover.
Regular table salt can be an effective scouring agent used to remove stains. Just pour some on a sponge and start scrubbing.
Sodium Hexametaphosphate is a naturally occurring mineral that is a water softener and will remove soap scum. It is odorless and good for deep cleaning. To save on your laundry soap, use half of the amount of soap and add to your laundry instead of bleach, which is corrosive to you pet's mouth and digestive track. It will brighten your whites and colors safely. It can also be added to the dishwasher to remove spots and save you on dishwasher detergent usage by half. It can be easily ordered online or purchased in most health food stores.
For pets suffering from allergies, they have much more chemical sensitivity to products than other pets. The natural products from your pantry are much healthier and safer for them, you and the environment. If you prefer to buy cleaning products, there are some eco-friendly products available that will not harm your pets. It is advised that you look for fragrance and dye free or the free and clear labels. Products without these labels can potentially make pets sick, cause severe burns in their mouths and digestive tracts, aggrevate allergies and, in worst-case scenerio, cause the death of your pet. Seventh Generation, Begley's Best and Mrs. Meyer's are just a few of the pet safe cleaning products that you can buy in most grocery and health food stores.
