Fitzroy House: A Home for the Writers
Fitzroy House positioned in the centre of Fitzrovia, was built in 1791 soon after major development efforts were carried out in the area. The remarkable interior and exterior designs of the Fitzroy House are the work of renowned Georgian-period architect, Robert Adam.
Dating back to the 18th century Fitzroy House is famous for the work of its writers and artists. It is among the few remaining structures in the area that preserves its original architecture. Fitzroy House is also the place to explore the work and life of L. Ron Hubbard.
The property features four magnificent floors, of which one is solely dedicated to exhibit the early life of Ron Hubbard. This floor also reveals the work of Hubbard as an acclaimed writer during the 1930s through to 1940s and his life and achievements as a leading humanitarian individual.
Ron Hubbard, who holds the title for the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Published Author has a floor at the Fitzroy House, separated exclusively displaying his literary achievements. His work has been translated in to 71 different languages and is placed just second to William Shakespeare as the most translated author.
This superb complex is where visitors can explore enduring work and life stories of some of the most eminent authors of the 20th century. Prominent authors such as Charles Dickens, H.G. Wells, Virginia Woolf and George Orwell have their work displayed here.
The property consists of six upper floors and is located at the junction of Fitzroy Street. It is believed that George Bernard Shaw once resided on the first floor of Fitzroy House with his mother during 1881 to 1882.
