How To Choose Home Furniture Online
One benefit of choosing home furniture online is that you can choose your accessories at the same time without any pressure to buy. I am sure you have sometimes felt under pressure when visiting furniture stores in Atlanta, New York, Chicago or even in Traverse City - you are trying to select your furniture and then check out the best accessories to go with it, but are continually followed around by keen sales staff who are trying to help, but are doing anything but!
Irrespective of that, you should always keep at least the following three factors in mind whether you are choosing your home furniture online or visiting a mall furniture store: a) you need it, b) it suits your existing decorative style and c) it looks good to you. It is surprising how many people miss out one of these factors when choosing furniture for their home - and it can be even worse with accessories such as lamps, mirrors and rugs.
Let is have a look at each of these individually:
1. You Need It
Only purchase what you need. Sure, it's good to have 'nice to have' items, but might regret buying it later when you discover you should have spent your money purchasing an essential piece - unless your wallet is bottomless, but then you would be unlikely to be reading this. Your home furniture would likely be in the hands of your professional interior designer!
You might discover some fabulous furniture that you had not thought of including in your list. You should expect this because anybody is liable to spot something that catches their eye that they had not thought of at the time. Its likely that anybody writing out a list of furniture they require for their home is going to miss something out!
For example, if you are choosing new furniture for your bedroom you might come across a wonderful chest that is large enough to store all your bedding. Let's take the example of a beautiful Allure Ottoman, about 4 feet long by 2.5 feet deep, large enough to store all the duvet covers and sheets you will need, and also able to be used as seating. An ottoman might not have figured in your original list, but it is a logical addition to make.
2. It Fits In With Your Decor
If this ottoman was in bright red and your room was decorated in light blue, then it might not be such a good choice after all. On the other hand, if that fabulous ottoman was covered with light blue upholstery then it would be a perfect match - unless the contrast suits you!
Maybe you want to furnish your bedroom in light oak, but the beautiful armoire that caught your eye was in maple or cherry veneer. You will then have to take one of three options: search for a light oak armoire in the same design that attracted you, switch the plans for your bedroom furniture to cherry or maple, or simply forget it.
The third choice, forgetting it, is not an option for most people desperate to refurnish their bedroom, so they will generally choose furniture to suit what is already there. Although this appears to be a contrived example, it is not as theoretical as it seems because such things do happen. Sometimes people design the decor and furniture of an entire room around one single existing item of furniture.
3. You Like It
It would be extreme folly to purchase home furniture you don't like simply because it fits in with your design and decorative style. It is far better to make a change to your decor;cor than to live with furniture you don't like.
Occasionally, it is not advantageous to be able to select your home furniture online. Sometimes it's best just to do what our parents, or even our grandparents had to do, and visit a selection of furniture stores and choose from the bedroom suites available.
Maybe Using One Home Furniture Store is Best
Many would visit just one store, and make their choices from that. We can often be offered too many choices online, when it would be easier just to have a limited selection. Is there any way to overcome this problem? You bet there is!
It would be a mistake to ignore the wide choice that the internet has to offer you, and the answer is to use a room planner to decide exactly what you need in your room before you even start looking for suitable items of furniture. Using that, you can start with an empty room of your exact dimensions and then fill it with the furniture options offered by that store.
Do not look anywhere else because you will be liable to get confused. You can then choose your bed, chests, armoire, cabinets and anything else you choose for your bedroom, knowing that they will match and that you will be able to furniture your room just as you want it. The primary argument in favor of using just one furniture store is that all your pieces will match with each other in design, wood and finish.
You can easily be spoiled for choice with the internet, and become confused without a specific direction to follow. If you make your selection of furniture and accessories online by using a template scaled to the dimensions of your room, you should be able to meet each one of the above three criteria and be completely satisfied with the result.
