How to Design Your Own Ice Fishing House.
An ice fishing house is a simple structure that can be created by just about anyone with basic tools and a willingness to actually do it. Generally an ice fishing house is just a simple six by ten structure with holes in the floor but it can also be as complex and as luxurious as you want it to be. With a little bit of planning, the right materials and tools for the job you can make and plan your own custom design for and ice fishing hut.
While designing an ice fishing shack you should keep in mind what you are going to need it for. If you are a social ice angler then you are going to want to make a bigger shack that will accomidate more of your friends or relatives. If you are a solitary fisher, then just a tiny hut will be what you are going to want to build. You are also going to have to take into account the time that you are going to stay there. If you are planning on sleeping in your ice house then you are going to want to build some kind of shelf into it to put your bunk roll onto.
Another key feature that you are going to want to incorporate into your ice fishing house plans is insulation. Not only is insulation great for deadining the sounds of the howling wind it will also keep you warm, cosy and possibly save your life in your ice shack. I would reccomend some of that hard, two inch thick, pink or blue insulation. Not only will it do the trick but it is also a lot easier to work with.
While plannnig your ice hut you are also going to have to think about portability. No one is going to want to haul around a 200lb shelter. If you have an atv or snowmobile that can do the hauling then you are not going to have to worry so much. If you are making a permanent shelter then you can build heavy but if you are going to have to move it everything you are on the ice then I suggest using composite or lighter materials like aluminum or canvas instead of two by fours and plywood.
If you are going to plan out a ice house that will be transported everytime you head to the ice then your are going to have to think about how you will want to get it out to your location. Some people have made wheels or skis into the bottom of their ice house. Others have even designed their ice fishing domicile to collapse into a sled that can be pulled behind them.
So no matter what you decide to put on your ice fishing house blueprints, just keep in mind what you are going to be using it for and always remember to stay safe on the ice and have a great time out there.
