Should I Save or Indulge on Coffee Makers?
When buying a coffee maker, most people would initially look at the price tag before they look at the features and the product quality. This is perfectly understandable especially when money is indeed tight. However, is it really worth it to buy a cheap coffee maker with not so good qualities or would it better to purchase a more expensive one that will last for years? Here are some considerations that you have to make.
There are indeed huge differences on the cost of coffee makers when you buy them from various places and when you buy different brands. When you buy a branded coffee maker, you can have them for over a hundred dollars and some even more than that. For a basic coffee maker that you can buy from local sellers of kitchen appliances, they can be bought for less than a hundred and some at even less than 50 dollars. For the coffee machine, the features will depend on the price that you have paid for. The more expensive coffee makers feature automatic shut-off which is definitely a life saver for those who constantly forget to turn off the machine as well as programmable timers that you can set so that by the time you wake up in the morning, you already have fresh coffee waiting for you. A cheaper coffee maker may not have these features which can be a drawback to most people.
The coffee pot is one of the most common problems for coffee makers especially the glass ones that easily break. Of course, you will most likely get a glass carafe when you buy a coffee maker for a cheaper price. You will have to take care of it properly though so that it will not break and so that you will not have to have it changed every now and then. Meanwhile, you have the choice of buying a pricier one that has an insulated carafe which is more durable and it also retains the freshness of the coffee you have brewed.
Another factor that should be considered is the water and filtration of the coffee maker. The water definitely depends on what you use, whether it's tap water or the ones that you buy commercially. There are some coffee makers however that has a water filtration system which removes the unpleasant tastes from your water. For the filtration, you can choose from using a paper water filter or you can buy a coffee maker that has a permanent filter. The paper filter is definitely cheap but there are claims that it causes some alterations with the flavor of the coffee. For those with permanent filters, you can avoid having that problem.
With these various factors, you can definitely see the differences of using a pricier coffee maker and one that you can buy at a lower price. While money can be an issue, it pays off to tighten those belts for a while so that you can save a hundred dollars and then enjoy excellent tasting coffee later on with a coffee maker that is durable and long lasting.
