We all try to make our homes as cozy and beautiful as possible and art is a great way to do it. If your room lacks color and style, it's time to go shopping for abstract wall art! Here are some tips that will help you do it right.
1. Measure available wall space.
You can't just wake up one day thinking, 'Hey, would be great to hang a painting here!' Before heading to the nearest gallery, take precise measurements of the wall space you can use. The general rule is that the art should fill three-quarters or two-thirds of the wall. If you consider buying abstract wall art, go with bigger sizes for more visual impact.
2. Hang at eye level.
Naturally, the position of the painting should match your eye level otherwise it will feel out of place. Think whether you are going to be standing or sitting in the room more often and adjust the art accordingly.
3. Leave some spare space around it.
The art shouldn't take the entire wall otherwise the room will look cluttered and uncomfortable and the painting itself will be lost. Thus hang the art at least 6-12 inches above the furniture and make sure there is a blank space surrounding it.
4. Replace a large painting with a gallery of small ones.
Oversized art is very trendy today, but not everyone can afford it. If your budget is limited, you can use several small paintings instead. Group them together on a blank wall so that they look harmonious and appealing. To achieve more balance, get your old paintings new frames.
5. Add color accents complementing the art's palette.
The colors of your room should 'sound' together and you can use art to make it work. Repeat the palette of your wall decor throughout the interior - for instance, throw in a couple of bright-colored sofa pillows or add an eye-catching vase of a matching shade.
6. Go with photos.
Photography has become just as sophisticated as painting. Using stylish photos in your interior can give it an unexpectedly edgy look. You can even combine them with modern wall art, canvas prints and other types of wall decor.
7. Use the painting as a starting point.
As a rule, we choose a piece of art that fits our interior, not vise versa. Try to do it the other way round and take clues from the painting you are about to use. You can 'borrow' its palette and style to choose wall color, furniture and other decor for your room. The result can be amazing.
