What You Need to Know Before Buying Gas Grills?
Summer is on the way and you know what that means... Grilling is back this season! It's good to know what you should look for before you hurry and buy yourself a grill, otherwise you might end up getting grills that don't last long or meet your expectations in cooking. There is no perfect grill, it all depends on your needs, resources, priority and how often you will use it. But there are common factors that you should try to look for as much as you can and consider before making that purchase.
1. Size
First thing's first, you should ask yourself how often will you grill and for how many people will you mostly serve for? It's given that the bigger a grill is, the more power it has. But, it will also take up more space and cost more. So if you don't need all that power unless you're really into grilling and you mostly do this for large servings, then most of the time, you will not really need a big grill. This way, you can save up more money instead of paying extra cash for a grill space that you wouldn't even utilize often. And most often than not, those with more burners may tend to have cold spots which then leads to uneven cooking. Hence, it is recommended to have at least 2 heating areas on average. Having 2 burners is already good enough to have just the right amount of space to cook a handful of food at the same time and more efficient heat distribution.
2. Construction
We usually think that having a grill made out of stainless steel is the way to go for a quality grill as it can resist rust and stains better. But of course, stainless steel grills can be expensive than other average grills. However, not all stainless steel can guarantee this. This depends on what kind of grade used to assure high quality materials. So in the end, as long as the stainless materials used are of high grade and has thick metal finish, it can be ideal to purchase that. Nevertheless, there are still gas grills that have high quality materials and sturdy construction even though they are not made of stainless steel. One example is those made of Porcelain Enameled steel is a good alternative and also cost lessr. Again, quality grills are not limited to those made of stainless steel.
3. Average BTUs
As a rule of thumb, it is ideal to find grills that have an equivalent of 100 BTUs per square inch, or at least be in the range of 80 to 100 BTUs per square inch because these are ones that give the best heat efficiency and maximize your heat to energy usage ratio. This way you will not have to worry on burning your food or feel lacking in heat for good searing. Also, having a high BTU doesn't guarantee faster preheating or higher temperature as higher BTU could also mean higher consumption of gas and may sometimes lead to harder control for heat and cooking.
4. Features
Grills that have lots of features would of course tend to cost more. So try to look for grills' features and consider which of those do you really need and will often use. So before buying a grill, try and ask yourself, do you really need these extra features and would you really be using it often? Some good features to consider is whether a grill is also capable to run with natural gas or at least readily available for converting the machine to natural gas. This way by using gas grill, you will also get the benefit of using natural gas as your fuel. Does it also have a cleaning or maintaing system like the easy to empty and clean drip pan? You have to regularly clean and maintain your machine so it's beneficial to have this feature as keeping your grill clean will also help extend its life and very convenient for you to do it regularly. Other extra features are built-in gauge and thermometer, side tables and side burners. Some may have rotisserie burner and smoker box, which can really maximize your grilling experience, however those are on the expensive end and you won't really be using it most of the time.
5. Brand Name
Brand name will also be helpful to assure quality of the grill. But don't just look for brand names. Try to find if any of these manufacturers have websites and customer service number so you can easily contact them for any assistance you need. But be patient when talking to their customer service so you can get the information and help you need.
Now that you know the factors to look, you are now ready to go and check out the best gas grills in the market. You can try and do some research as well on the potential gas grill you want to buy to better know if this is for you.
