Wedding Rings a Journey Well Worth Taking
Let us take a minute and follow the path of a pair of wedding rings.
A chunk of tungsten sits in a metal shop in a dark corner. Lonely and apprehensive of being sawed, cut, and chiseled into a completely different form, the slab prays everyday it will go unnoticed. The slab has lucked out for what has seemed to be years and years. However, the journey of a lifetime begins on this fateful day. A worker grabs the slab and places it on his workbench. After carefully deciding he will mold two wedding rings out of the metal, he begins the tedious process of melting and shaping the metal into two perfect circles. These circles will ultimately become the symbol of never-ending love between two individuals. When the metal worker is satisfied with his new creation, he then polishes and cleans the metal to bring out its luster and shine.
Ready to be sold to the highest bidder, the beautiful rings are photographed and put online for sale. After a few mishaps and young teenagers playing pranks, there appears to be a serious buyer. A price is negotiated and agreed upon, so the rings are carefully packaged and shipped across the country to a lovely couple about to get married. Although the rings are in the same package, it seems as if they are light years apart because they may become damaged if placed in the same container. When they arrive at their destination, they are gushed over for a few minutes then quickly tossed in a sock drawer where they will remain for 41 more days until the wedding date arrives. It is dark in the drawer of socks, but at least it is warm and soft.
When the wedding day arrives, there is a certain buzz in the air. It appears as though everyone is stressed out to the maximum while being simultaneously excited about the imminent future. And the wedding rings make their last journey to the venue where they are tucked safely and gingerly into the pocket of the best man or ring bearer. When the time comes, they are removed from the pocket of the best man, handed to the groom and bride, and slipped onto their fingers. Finally, they have made the long journey from an ugly slab of metal to a gorgeous wedding band that symbolizes undying love and affection for another person.
