Some people love them and others wouldn't have them anywhere near their home. It's all a matter of taste and practicality when it comes to sectional sofas.
- They are a great alternative to the normal configuration of seating arrangements - the three seat couch and love seat.
- They can fit more 'bums on seats' in a smaller space than conventional living room sofas.
- They offer a variety of comfortable positions - if someone wishes to use the 'bed' section at the end, they are not taking away space from the other seats (unlike a conventional sofa where to lay across it means no-one else can sit there.
- They are more versatile than traditional sofas.
- The price point is usually less than the three and two seat conventional sofas.
- Ideal for smaller rooms.
- Some come with built-in twin or queen beds and are therefore great when guests stay overnight but also for people living in a one room apartment where you can combine living and sleeping with this sectional sofa.
- If you have children, these sofas are ideal.. You can be reading a book whilst your child has a nap on the 'long' part. Also when your child is home sick, they can use the long part to doze and/or watch TV and still feel they are not away from it all in their bedroom which is usually upstairs.
- A good alternative for the den or family room.
- Some families think they are not formal enough for their living room.
- They are not the usual conventional shape and appearance so again, some people don't like that.
- Sectional sofas often need more time to assemble than traditional ones.
- They are not a good match for some rooms.
- There isn't the separation as there is in two and three seat couches.
- Could look out of place in an elegant, formal room.
Sectional sofas, just like traditional ones come in a huge variety of fabrics and furnishings. Micro fiber looks like suede but is easy as far as maintenance is concerned and is very stain resistant. In fact stains are usually easy to get rid of with this fabric. Leather, on the other hand, offers the most expensive finish and is not a good match if you have pets and/or children.
Some sectional sofas are curved and they look very comfortable and they don't have that 90 degree angle that most sectional sofas have. Also, because the curved ones usually have a curved piece in the corner, they can be slightly larger than the 90 degree angle ones.
